Laminate floors are a wonderful, affordable solution for any home, but they require a good bit of preparation work. The tips ahead will point out what you can do to get the job done right. Let’s start with the first one on our list:
Measuring the boards is what has to be done when some sort of obstruction is in the way that you simply cannot remove, such as a pipe or something similar. You will need to measure the board to the pipe to accommodate. If the obstruction happens to be near the ends, you will need to measure the end of the last board and the obstruction and work on fitting that to it. The idea is to have two planks together with a hole in the center to work things into fitting it around the object itself. Once you figure out the first plank’s dimensions, then the second one, you will need to measure the distance from the wall and make a mark on both ends of what gets in the way.
The next step is to drill a hole between the two planks so you can fit it right over the obstacle.
Once that is done, you will need to work on filling the gap left behind, such as fitting the pieces around the obstruction after the sawing is complete. You must use an acrylic paste with higher elasticity to fill the gap around the object.
The next step includes cutting the planks off so they will be as close to the wall as possible, staggering the joints and making it look as natural as possible near the end of the rows themselves. You should remember to mix the planks from different packages when you work, as this will also allow you for a more natural look while you work. If you do have to tap some of the planks into place, make sure you use the block and tap that came with the materials. Not using them puts the integrity of the planks at risk when you tap.
If you have to do any installation of pieces around corners, then you will need a jigsaw to get the job done right. Install the pieces around the corners with a tapping block and a pull bar. If you have to install planks around a floor vent, then you will need to remove the grate first. If you accidentally damage it, you can buy a new one, but you should be careful not to do so anyway.
You will then need to reinstall the heat vents once you’re done. The final planks will need to be installed by using the pull bar. They may need to be a bit higher than before, but that won’t be a problem once the installation is complete.
